At 8am November 12th, Australia introduces a new national event at Manly Surf Life Saving Club!
Brainchild of three times childhood cancer survivor Julian Day. It is his way of giving back.
Our Ambassadors including Liesl Tesch AM, Guy Leech (No.1 Fitness Guy), and Matt Levy, OAM will be at the launch ensuring we get off to a brilliant start!
Current ironman Kendrick Louis will be joining us. And Tony Bonner (Skippy, Man From Snowy River) will help compere the event. It’s going to be an action packed morning!
Over the next 48 hours Australians will be walking, swimming, kayaking and traversing our nations water-ways. Beaches, inland rivers, estuaries and anything water related will be included, even back yard pools!
Pulling together to raise money for 12 amazing charities, we are aiming to cover the distance of the coastline of Australia (52,000 kms) with our combined teams.
We might be stretching our luck a little this year, as we are brand NEW but will be giving it our best shot! Local primary school Manly Village P.S. is giving us a hand to ‘test the waters’ and winning school fundraising teams will have an exclusive paddle with Guy Leech.
Matt Levy is giving the schoolchildren a talk in late November on ‘what it takes to become a winning athlete’. Matt has won five Gold medals in previous Paralympics, and won Bronze at the recent Rio Games.
Channel 7 are interviewing Guy Leech on The Morning Show on the 10th at 10.55am so tune in and let your friends know, and Matt Levy will be on The Daily Edition on the 11th.
Channel 7 News will be interviewing our Ambassador Layne Beachley on the Gold Coast before her Aim For The Stars/Waterline Team head to the water Saturday.
Ambassador Liesl Tesch, Gold Medalist Paralympic Sailor said, ‘I just love the concept of Waterline Challenge, and am putting my heart and soul into it and encouraging all Australians to TEAM UP for such a great event’.
Our Twitter/Instagram campaign #makeasplash is getting some famous faces involved. Watch this space! We are also raising funds for grants to improve water quality, marine conservation and environmental projects.
This is a very Australian event and a great way for people to raise money for a charity of their choice including Surf Life Saving Australia, Cure Brain Cancer and Aim for the Stars.
The Waterline Challenge is also proud to have two key Patrons: The Hon.Wendy Baden-Powell, and John Alexander AO MP, Tennis Great and member for Bennelong.
