Central Coast Challenge

Waterline Challenge™

Central Coast Challenge – from Killcare SLSC to Terrigal SLSC

will be held on Saturday 18th November, 2023

The Waterline Challenge Central Coast will be held on  Saturday 18th November 2023  and is approximately 20km walk from Killcare to Terrigal along the spectacular coastline with breathtaking views. The first half of the walk is through the beautiful Bouddi National Park, then along beaches and over headlands.

Walkers can choose from three different starts to do either the whole 20km, 10km or 5km into Terrigal. There is also a special wheelchair leg covering the last 2km into Terrigal. We’ll have drone photos taken of all walkers at the end on The Skillion before finishing at Terrigal SLCS for refreshments.

We are raising funds to purchase sets of Karey&Kareful Storybooks for all children with Special Needs on the Central Coast. The Storybooks have been specially written by author Christopher Williams and illustrated by Ann Victoria for children that have reading and learning disabilities.

It is estimated that there are up to 600 children with Special Needs on the Central Coast. Each set of 5 books costs $50, so our target is to raise $30,000. A total of 200 walkers each raising just $10 per km that they walk will get us there!

The Surf Clubs are supporting us along the coast and the starting points are Killcare SLSC at 9am, MacMasters Beach SLSC 11.30am, Avoca Beach SLSC 1.30pm, and the wheelchair leg from North Avoca SLSC at 1:45pm. Everyone finishes at Terrigal SLSC by 3pm.

So, come and join Karey & Kareful on this great coastal walk and help us raise the funds we need to make life a little bit better for our children with Special Needs.

Karey & Kareful Storybooks

A long time friend of Waterline’s Founder, Julian Day, Chris Williams is the author of the Karey & Kareful books series. Beautifully illustrated by Ann Victoria there are currently 5 different titles. (The cover of the first book – “How We Met” – is shown on the left.).

The Karey&Kareful Storybooks are about the adventures of Karey the Kangaroo and his best mate Kareful the Koala who’s in a wheelchair, how they met, and what they get up to! The books have had a great reception from Special Needs Children, their teachers and parents.

It is estimated that there are up to 600 Special Needs Children on the Central Coast area. There are 30 Primary Schools and 6 Special Schools, one school alone needs 100 sets. The books are already in 4 Schools: Chertsey School – 40 sets, Erina High – 20 sets, Woy Woy Primary – 65 sets, Ettalong Primary – 35 sets. We are running the Waterline Challenge Central Coast event specially to raise funds to purchase up to 600 sets required for each child with Special Needs on the Central Coast.
